No power to coil or fuel pump

'99 mercruiser, 5.0L, 2BBL mercarb. Engine cranks fine. Both batteries fully charged, showing 12+ volts on the meter. No fuel in the carburetor.

I was trying to bypass the oil pressure switch to see why no fuel was getting to the carb when further investigation revealed that no power was getting to the ignition coil either. The purple wire to oil pressure switch and coil has no current (key in RUN position). So I have no gas AND no spark.

My question - where is current introduced to that circuit? From the wiring diagram, it appears to be at/through the alternator. I understand the duality of current to the fuel pump, but the common purple wire to both fuel pump and coil is dead.

Before I remove the alternator and clean/test connections, just want to make sure I'm looking in the right spot. OR do I need to look elsewhere.

Not really the answer to your specific questions, but using the KISS principle, are you sure you don't have the emergency lanyard cutoff switch in the off position?

Assuming you do have the kill swithch lanyard in and the switch works.

The power comes from the ignition terminal on the ignition switch, it puts power to the kill switch and then on to the engine, (including the alternator)
The alternator DOES NOT supply power to the purple wire.
