Re: No power to engine - batteries charged - ECC fried

HE has a Volvo, not a Mercruiser. No fusable link on the starter. It's a Ford not a Chevy. There are circuit breakers on the front of the engine. But just because the button is in, doesn't mean the power is there. BUT, and it's a BIG BUT, before you put power on it, make sure there aren't any shorts ( That's what causes burned wires).<br />If you haven't already destroyed the ECU, you better find the problem before putting power to it or you could end up destroying it yet. They only cost a grand or so. Wouldn't a manual be cheaper?

My two cents worth would be for him to call someone experienced in this matter. This is nothing a greenhorn needs to mess with unless he has a butt load of money to throw at it when the mechanic has to repair the orginal problem plus locate and repair the problems the owner causes. Its obvious that the gentleman doesn't have the electical experience to track down and repair the problem.

Capt Ken and Don - I'm in the process of trying to locate a VERY HIGHLY qualified mechanic anywhere between Gulf Shores, AL and Houston, TX. If you know of any, feel free to provide suggestions. Thanks to all for your help. Looks like the fix is well above my basic engine knowledge. Time to open up the checkbook!!

Next time any one runs down batteries till there dead I suggest you take them out and recharge them both on the work bench. Do not put in a charged battery across a dead battery. What can and does happen is as the last batterylead is touched a HUGE CURRENT surge occures. Then as you are wiggling the clamp down more HUGE makes and breaks occur rapidly. Not all engine computer chips can take the arcs that often. They can fail under those conditions. If you want to connect OR DISCONNECT 1 of the 2 batteries. Take a battery lead off of the 2 batteries that goes to the rest of the boat. It will stop any current surges from popping electronic stuff. A battery DISCONNECT SWITCH should be in the off position before, during and after the battery leads are played with.
