Hello there, just want to say what a great forum you guys have going here. This is my first post, although I've been watching quite awhile. Anyway, I have a 1973 Larson Lapline with a 120hp Mercruiser. Thing runs great, always has. All of a sudden, I have no reverse. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the linkages, although I could've missed something. There is no grinding when I put it in reverse, and yesterday, it actually went forward. No problems with the forward gear. Hope to get this thing fixed before freezeup. Thanks

Check to see if the P/S Bearing carrier has been pushed back. If so...inspect the ring nut and tighten.

TMD

Re: No Reverse

Thanks for the reply. Could you explain just what the P/S Bearing carrier is and where it is located? Could this problem be caused by the ski rope being wrapped around the prop? Just found out that it started doing this after the rope was wound on the prop. Thanks

you might have a spun hub.if you collected the rope in reverse even more likely.

Re: No Reverse

Thanks for all the help you guys! Just happened to find a loose fitting in the shift cable that I had overlooked. The fitting was located on the shift lever that attaches to the reverse lock valve. It was in a bind so that it felt tight. It moved about a quarter of an inch. Thanks again for all the help, and making my first posting so great!
