Re: No spark coming from ignition coil 5.0FL PMDA engine

UPDATE:

Ok, so after installing the new ignition control module and the correct coil for my ignition, the motor fired right up and ran. Now I have one small issue....

When I removed the spark plug wires from the distributor cap, I didn't mark them, and I don't know the proper placement for them. It runs, but it is not running right. I know the firing order, just not how to place the plugs properly.

There's a how-to in the stickies about finding TDC of the compression stroke for cylinder 1. Do that, then pull off the cap and see which point the rotor is pointing at. That's where the plug wire for cylinder 1 goes. Since you know your firing order, you know what order the rest of the wires go on. Refer to your manual but I believe the Ford motors are a counter-clockwise rotation around the cap.

Look at page 1-23 of the manual. Shows where the wires go and cylinder numbering, assuming no one has removed the distributor and put it back in so #1 is in a different place. If that happened, then you will need to find #1 TDC on the compression stroke ...... like this. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=427081

Re: No spark coming from ignition coil 5.0FL PMDA engine

thanks a lot guys, I think it is the original distributor. So I guess I can just use the manual. When I had it running, it ran and sounded ok at higher rpm's, but when i let it idle down, it stalled out as if it were being starved of gas and the carb makes a noise like it was choked out. IS this because my firing order is messed up or do I have a new problem now?

Look at them and see if they are right. You have the tools, use them.

FINAL UPDATE:

Don S, thank you so much for making me learn about my engine. You helped me just enough to get me going, and helped me find the information needed to learn on my own. I would not change it if I had the chance. After installing new coil and ignition module, it ran but not nice. I then used the information provided to me by Don S to figure out where the plug wires were supposed to be on my distributor cap and made all right. Engine ran PURRRRRfectly :) I cannot be happier right now, and really want everyone to know how grateful I am for their help. Maclin as well. Thank you guys! Skydive, you too thanks all!
