I was out on my boat for like the 6th time after buying it. Earlier in
the day I had it out and it backfired once and died. I started it back
up and it ran fine. Took it back to the dock and left for a hour or
so.

I then took it back out later it started and ran fine. On the way
back home I was moving along about half throttle and the the motor
just shut off. I waited for the boat to come to a stop, dropped anchor
and tried to start it back up. It would not idle, I put it in neutral
and revved the engine for a little while, then it idled for about one
minute. I put it in gear to head back home and as soon as I did it
died and didn't start back up. My dad came out and towed me back in. I
then started to check what might have happened. I started to see if I
had spark on either cylinder and there is nothing. I checked all the
fuses and none of them are bad. I check all the wiring and from what I
can tell it is all ok. I suspect the CDI, but I don't want to go out
and buy a 100-200 dollar part and not be able to return it if it is
not the problem.

Anyone have an suggestions???

Please and Thank You!!!

Nicholas

Forgot to mention.

I just bought this boat a couple of weeks ago. The guy said it hadn't
be started in about 2 years. After charging the battery it cranked
over and started right away.

In previous statement when I said it won't start I meant that it would
crank over but it won't start running.

Sounds like a CDI to me. Just check and make sure all the wiring is tight and plugged in. Do the easy stuff first: plugs, carb clean etc.
