Re: No Spark for 85 force outboard
It is not likely that both of the electronic boxes are bad so lets just eliminate them for the time being. It is also not likely that all three triggers are bad so we'll eliminate them too.
These ignition for engines are powered by a dedicated winding on the alternator. This could go bad but again, it is not too likely; other things are more likely to have happened.
So: start with the ignition switch. Disconnect the blue and white wires. These engines are stopped by shorting the white wire to the blue wire to ground on the terminal board. If you can not easily get to them, disconnect them at the terminal board on the engine. Crank the engine and see if you have spark. If you do, the switch is bad and needs replacing. If you still have no spark, the switch is probably ok and you now need to check the grounding for the electronic system.
These engines only have one small ground wire conneced from the electronic mounting plate to the block. Run a separate ground wire daisy chain fashion from each of the three coils and each of the electronic boxes. These are the black wires that bolt to the plate. Run the separate ground around to the terminal board on the other side of the engine and connect to the ground terminal.
Also, check the neutral interlock switch. If the shift linkage is out of adjustment, the switch will not be depressed, but in this case, the engine will not turn over.
