I have a 1995 Evinrude 90hp outboard that was running pefectly until it stalled and now has no fire to the plugs. I put new plugs in an still no spark. I thought I could see a slight spark on one plug but I can't be sure of that even. Anyone have ideas?

Re: No spark on 90hp Evinrude

In a shady area, remove the spark plugs to obtain the highest cranking rpm possible. Cranking speed must be approximately 300 rpm in order for the stator to energize the powerpack.

Rig up a spark tester whereas you can set a 7/16" gap. Crank the engine and observe the spark.

If no spark, or a very weak spark, disconnect the electrical plug(s) at the engine, then crank the engine via a jumper at the starter solenoid. If you now have spark, inall probability the ignition switch is shorted, in which case replace it.

Let us know what you find.
