1993 150hp Evinrude VE150GLETG. This engine has a shift switch on it that cuts spark to half the engine while shifting to ease the load on the driveshaft. My question is, will it always cut spark to the same bank or will it alternate banks? With the switch connected it will not fire on the starboard bank if I unplug one of the two wires it will fire on all six. If I completely remove the switch the engine will run great but when I turn the key off the engine keeps running but it runs as if the spark is really weak. I say this because there is a significant change in the way the engine sounds, but it stays running with the key off. Another question I should ask is how dose the switch work? Is it a normally open or closed switch? Or is it something totally different than that? Please help me understand this system better.
