Hi everybody

Well I just bought my first bass boat which has a 60hp johnson outboard engine 60esl-70d after getting the boat home I can't get the motor to run and I have determined that there is no spark. After racking my brain all day today I found a parts diagram and it seems I am missing a rather expensive part. If you go to this diagram http://www.boats.net/parts/search/brp/JOHNSON/1970/60ESL70D 1970/DISTRIBUTOR GROUP/parts.html#

it seems I am missing #84 on the parts diagram, if someone could tell me what this is and does it would be mighty helpful.

The part you are missing is the "clipper" that protected against voltage surges. It was later removed via a Johnson Service Bulletin as it caused more problems than it solved. It seems yours has already been removed. You can find more information in the forums here about that specific part. Hope that helps and that you haven't bought one already.
