no tell tale on 2003 merc 50 four stroke

Can someone help me to troubleshoot this and / or point me to a manual I can purchase? I just bought this motor, I thought it was pissing when I first took it out. It may have sucked in some mud.

Poke a piece of weed whacker line into the tell tale. It may just be plugged. Otherwise, armed with the engine serial number, visit the Mercury Marine web site and order a service manual through Parts Express. It will be specific to your engine.
