I have a 6hp Johnson outboard,I am not sure what year it was made, I was told it was a 1972, it starts easily, but can see no visible water discharge to tell me that the water is circulating, I cant seem to locate a weep hole, typicaly i would expect the weep hole to be located under the power head housing. is there another place that the water would be discharging?<br /> please help.

Is it possible that the circulating water is discharging through the exhaust?

It exits from the exhaust relief ports about midway down the back of the mid section

I have a 6 HP Evinrude fisherman 1968 and sometimes the water does not come out of the exhaust hole until it gets the rpm's up a bit. Mine has no weep hole under the power head. Does anything come out the exhaust when you get the rpm's up?

Re: NO VISIBLE WEEP HOLE

If you are running it in a barrel make sure it sits down far enough in the water. The water should be well over the cavitation plate so the water pump is submerged. You should easily see the warm water spraying out the holes bubbakat mentions. Gotta have that water coming out or you will fry your motor. Replace the rubber impeller in the waterpump every few years whether the motor is used or not. They age just sitting in storage. Run them when they're old and they might start breaking apart and logding pieces of rubber in your cooling passages. At that point you will REALLY wish you'd just replaced the impeller earlier.
