Water pressure from the hose is probably the difference. When was the last time the impeller was changed? Likely it's time. Is the AV plate completely submerged? Basically the pump must be totally underwater.

Changing the impeller is very easy to do. I recommend you shop ebay for a OMC service manual for you motor first.

impeller is easy on that one, remove the screen on each side of the foot. there is a compression fitting in there, only turn the top 1/2 the fitting. this is the shift linkage, if you turn the bottom 1/2 it will through the shift out of wack. remove the bolt holding lower unit under the compression nut is a plastic Ferrel that has to be remove, to side the lower all the way down.

Similar problem with my 2004 6 horse 4-stroke, but when I use the flush tool, still no water stream. Where is the impeller on the 4-strokes? Is it still in the lower unit? I also see a couple devices in line with the external water hoses, sort of looks like a diverter/pressure regulators. Do these thiings go bad (causing the flush unit to not create the pee hole stream) or does it all stem back to the impeller? BTW, when I got it one year ago the owner, who I consider reliable, said a technician told him the pee hole indicators on these models don't mean that much (since very little was coming out of it at that time). Does any one have a feel for the reliablity that technician's judgement?

Thanks!

Re: no water frome pee hole

i really suggest you get the OEM service manual. i have no idea on a 4stroke.

the tale tell stream tells you that the impeller is pumping. it does not tell you that the tstat is opening, cooling the block.

the tale tell hose could be clogged, but with no water the is not cooling at all.
