Noise When I Turn the Prop By Hand

Hi everyone, I just found this forum.

I have a 2005 HPDI 250 with about 200 hrs on it. Yesterday, I was cleaning up the boat and I turned my prop by hand. It made clicking / clunking noise and had a lot of rough spots when I turned it (bad bearings maybe). Also, when I tried to move the prop in and out on the shaft, it seemed to have a lot of play, probably 1/8 inch or so.

I'm going to take it to the shop today, but I'm wondering what it might be. Hopefully it's not as bad as I'm thinking ($$$)

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Take the prop off and make sure you didn't run over some fishing rigs. If not. Linkage may be out of adjustment or drain the oil from the lower unit and check for metal debris maybe a bearing failure.

I agree with Robert.
with the shifter in N position look at the shift block and slide assy to see if the alighnment marks are lined up.
especially if you have black teleflex cables.
they are simply junk but I make a lot of money from them.
