Hi again, I've narrowed all my troubles down to gas. Going to link and sync and rebuild carbs after my dropping this motor to the ground 3 feet. My new issue is noise. I've only had this thing 2 months and have been working out of town for most of it, but I remember this motor being rather noisy like lots of machinery moving almost deisel like. Now though, it seems to cut out the racket for a few seconds now and then to just the exaust noise when in my garage on the muffs.I'll post the results of my comp. test after someone replies with my needing to ground the plugs or not as I crank the cylinders.
Thanks for all the help so far, I'm 90% there, got the truck today to pack this thing around. Gotta work for 2 more weeks then summer fishing, tubing, skiing time. Back to the noise any ideas?
Thanks

I have a 74 model 65hp Merc 3 cyl, and brother let me tell you, that thing is so loud, I cant hear my self think when at WOT. The diesel sound that you speak of, atleast on mine, is the distributor spinning.

PS, if you need any parts, let me know. I have a whole bunch of parts for that motor. Got a good deal, and dont need them anymore. email nathanyerger@earthlink.net

Hey Dad, My 75 650 has that deisel sound when idling on muffs also. Don't think anything to worry bout. On the water it runs like a scalded dawg, just a bit loud also.
