I have a 2000 bayliner capri with a 3L 4cyl the problem is the exhaust is noisy now it seems to exit right at the transom there are 2 holes l and R sides it also exits at the prop some but while crusing its still exiting out the top near the transom. We have removed the engine and gettin it rebuilt and while it out I would like to fix this problem. here is what I noticed the pipe that bolt to the outdrive has a flapper which is gone. Now down at the connection to the outdrive the outdrive has 3 holes one big one and 2 small just below and L and R of big hole. is there a valve that is missing or did the flap or shutter get blown down the main pipe and is now clogging it? has anyone ran in to this please help it very annoying to have such a loud boat.

Re: Noisy Exhaust

The two small holes are idle relief ports and they are supposed to be there. The flapper should also be there, if yours is missing, replace it. Yes it is possible that the old flapper is stuck in the exhaust somewhere, with the drive and engine removed you should easily be able to find it(if it is in there).

As for the noise, do you still have the exhaust bellows in place???

Could be that the flapper may have blown on thru into the drive and is causing enough back pressure for more of the exhaust to choose to come out those relief ports.

Re: Noisy Exhaust

The bellows?? are those the flexable rubber pieces that run through the hull or transom piece if so then yes they are there. we will pull the out drive off and check to see if the outlet is blocked thanks for your replies

I thought the drive was already off, it really makes gettin' the out alot easier.

Re: Noisy Exhaust

You need the drive off when removeing and reinstalling the engine. Especially when installing. You have to align the engine and that can't be done with the drive on. You also have to set the drive straight down on the motor mount hardware to keep it in place, or take a chance of serious damage to the coupler.
So, if you want to make sure you don't have to pull the engine again just to change the coupler, then pull the drive, align the engine when installed and look for the missing parts while the drive is off.
