Hey gang,

So we just picked up a really nice 1969 Reinell 19' outboard, and we want to keep it as nice as we can. Unfortunately we can't spring for indoor storage at the moment, and it won't fit in our one-car garages, so it's parked in a storage yard.

Here's my intro thread with a few photos: http://forums.iboats.com/boat-topic...-topics/1969-reinell-19-barn-find-647663.html

The boat came with the original canvas/vinyl convertible top and bows which is still in excellent condition, although it might have shrunk a little.

It also came with a semi-custom Westland Sharkskin cover. I think it was originally for a 2004 boat, but it fits reasonably closely.

If the convertible top is up, the Sharkskin cover just barely reaches the deck.

So my thinking for summer use is that we need to re-weatherproof the cover with 303 or something similar, get a couple poles to tent it, and just use the cover.

Over the winter we should probably tarp it, again using support poles to shed water.

So my noob questions are:

1. Should we leave the canvas convertible top on, then cover over it? I'm worried I'll trap moisture and damage the vinyl top

2. Should we use the convertible top bows to help support the Sharkskin cover? It seems like this makes it too high.

3. I saw a few recommendations for 303 Aerospace weatherproofing, any other recommendations?

What do you do to keep your boat dry when stored outdoors?

Thanks!
Ian
