Saw a tv fishing show where they were doing that for snapping turles except they pulled 'em out by the tail. I think the fellow called it grabbling or grappling. It was a hoot to watch him.

HotByte, here in Kentucky, it's called noodling.

Whatever they want to call it, it use to be fun when I was younger and could move a little faster.

And yes, you feel back across their back or side till you find the tail and come out with them pretty quick cause they can twist their head around and get you. :D

Hey Spinner, I think I know what HotByte is talking about. Way down south they go after snappers with their feet. One guy in the water feeling with his feet. When he finds one, he goes head first after the critter and his buds pull on his feet to bring him and the turtle up. I call it brain dead. 'Course some of my buds think I'm brain dead to. Did ya' ever do any frog giggin'? Use to love to do that. Can't beat a fresh pile of frogs deep fired to a golden brown. ;) ;) ;)

lmao at 12'r & OBJ!

i haven't done it, my granpa used to tho, and i've seen a video of guys grabbin cats out of big 4x4' plywood boxes sunken in a river just for this purpose.

but i have gigged hundreds of frogs, and might do it again since i love to eat em. we always waited til late summer/early fall, so the frogs were grown and the skeeters had 'chilled out' alittle ;)
