After I removed my remote, checked it out, ( throttle only button broken ) reinstalled it now she won’t into forward. When I adjusted cable to get forward I lost reverse. Possibly issue in the outdrive ?

Panel mount, commander 2000….I think, remote. Having intermittent problems with shifting for 5 years 😞

You likely misadjusted the shift cable when reinstalling. The problem is almost certainly in the control box, not the outdrive. Recheck the cable adjustment at the remote. There's a specific procedure for setting neutral that you must follow precisely.

Yeah...use logic here...everything was fine until you messed with the control so...you did something wrong. Just go back and retrace your steps to find you error.

I’ve had 2 different people look at it starting 4 years ago. Local marine shop made adjustments and replaced lower shift cable. Other guy Broke My Throttle Only Button 🤬 and said it was way out of adjustment 🤔 I’m wondering if HE screwed something up? The remote seems to move the cables with ease. I’ll be digging into it tomorrow 😁

How precisely do you have to adjust those cables anyway. It just moves some linkages for Christ sake 😂

A 4 year old cable should not need to be replaced again

HERE are vids which AChris did and will show how to adjust
There are a lot of info in the Stickies at top of sections

THANK YOU GUYS for all your support. It was a mistake I made reinstalling the remote. I am getting all gears now, F, N & Reverse. That video from Chris is wonderful 👏. I’ll drop her in Conesus Lake, 2-3 weeks for a test run 😁.

Took the boat out 3 weeks ago, ran good except shifting into forward still isn’t right. I will try to get a new remote with cables before spring.

Gee, Mercury controls almost never wear out. I have a MerControl from 1977 and another older one (white) that work perfectly.

However, I have a Mercury control from about 4 years ago that is tricky to put together properly, if it was apart. The throttle only linkage serves to anchor the shift cable. If it is not assembled properly, the shift cable doesn't move enough.
