Not getting full Port/Starbaord turning radius?

I have a manual NFB Rack steering system with a set number of turns in either direction that I used on my 2 stroke for ever.

I noticed that when I connected the steering to my F225 and made full turns of the wheel I am not getting the full turning radius of the motor. It is short to the motor stops by about 1 1/2 " on the port and starbaord side. Looks like the motor is hardly turning.

Is ths normal? Do I need to get maybe a new size steering rod for the F225?

do you have the correct part number draglink? is it mounted in the correct hole on the steering tiller?
and the biggerst question is , are you sure your cable system is actually rated for a 225 HP set up?

Yes the steering system is a Telefex rack. I had it on my 225 2 stroke for years.

I have the draglink in the hole farthest out towards the end.

I am not sure about the draglink part # I think it was the same one i had on there from when I had a older 200hp 2 stroke 10 years ago.

I did measure it and it's about 11" long...

double check with teleflex, never saw a single cable system rated above 150 HP.
dunno about the drag link, your gonna have to cross check the part numbers, but your in the wrong hole on the tiller.
man why wont people buy manuals :) :)

thats cause its in the rigging guide, as yamaha does not make any steering systems it wont be in the tech or the service manuals, it is in the rigging guide as is the correct drag link part number, but do contact teleflex, odds are super high your steering, even though rigged wrong for years, isnt rated for the F225.

I have been looking around the net and some sites state that the NFB rack is good up to V6 and some say up to V4 ?

I am just going to hit the Yamaha dealer and get some info..

Magnoman,
Call teleflex directly. One phone call will solve your problem. They have an excellent tech support; I just got off the phone with them. You will likley have to leave your name and number, but they will call you back, likley within the hour. Not some idiot on the other end of the phone either. Why not here it directly from the source? Good luck.

Don't belive it is rated for a 225, but it also does not hook up to the outer hole but the innner one.

Re: Not getting full Port/Starbaord turning radius?

Thanks, Yes moved it to the rear hole and know I get full turn radius..duhhh.

I called teleflex, and The NFB Rack single cable is rated for a 225 as long as the boat does not go over 50mph?

I don't really know of a 23ft boat with one 225 come close to 50mph!

I am lucky if I get 40mph.

Looks like I am getting ready to rock. Now just have to prop her when it gets in the water..

Thanks so much for all the help you guys provide especially "Rodbolt" if your ever in the Nyc area dinner is on me!
