Not getting on the plane

Hi,
I recently took possession of my first boat. It is a little 5.85 m centre cockpit fishing job - see attached. I have 2 x 50HP Honda outboards (year - 2000) driving it but it does not get on the plane at the moment.
I?m not sure of the weight of the boat but its maximum rave is just under 5,000. I?m looking for general advice on the types of props I could use with these engines to get more power. 3 or 4 blade, pitch, size etc?
I?m a totally new at boating so plain speak (no pun intended).

Nice boat! Well, I doubt you need any more then twin 3blade props in the water with twin engines. Not sure of the pitch you need? What pitch do you have on there now? and whats your full speed rpm? IMO smart tabs would probably be a good idea, instead of a couple of Doel fins, with all that weight in the rear to help you plane off the best. For the time being, I'd say just make sure your trim is all the way down to start with, if you don't have power trim, put your motors at the lowest point, lowest angle (lowest hole with the adjustment rod) to begin with, if the bow plows when planing, just take it up 1 hole at a time till it rides level.

That is an awfully big vessel for only twin 50s. My guess is that she is rated for up to 200HP, maybe 150HP.

A general rule of thumb that we use here is that a vessel requires 70% of rated HP for satisfactory performance. Based on that, I guess that you have only 50% to 67% of rated HP. Being twin engines rather than a single you probably need 75% to 80% of rated HP, but you should be able to plane the vessel with the Honda 50s.

Thanks for the replies. I will look at the smart tabs to see it it will push me over the line. I will also do some maintenance work on the boat for the next few weeks - I'm sick of catching sailfish here in Seychelles anyway.

Be sure the bottom is clean.Check the compression on the motors.
Should surely plane if not loaded too heavily.
