I have a Monterey 194FS ..

I have a practical issue ... the speedo is far too wide reading, it's a nice 5" gauge, but due to fact it has trim gauge taking up part of it, and it is set for 0 - 65mph
It means the speedo needle although on a nice big 5" gauge only has a travel of 180 degrees not the 300 degrees you would get on other gauges.

It is very difficult to read when you want to hold it at 18 or 22 mph for example, which is where most of my boating is done (wakeboarding fro example)
50% of the needle travel goes from 0-50mph ....

WOT on my boat will only get me to 44 mph ..... so in excess of 50% of travel is redundant for me.
It would obviously be much better if I can get a 0-50 mph, and better than 190 degree needle swing.

I have a couple of Q's ....

#1 What make are these gauges (i.e. manufacturer) - anybody know, tell from picture 20130627_193943.jpg

# Anybody know if I can can get a gauge with better speed spread i.e 0-50 mph

# Can I get a better arc of swing > 180 degree

I could discard it and install Perfect pass, but then lose the trim gauge.

+1

Pitot driven Speedos are all going to be logarithmic due to the physics of Hydrodynamic pressures.
A 60mph Pitot Speedo will have 43mph in the middle and 30mph at 1/4 scale.

The do make GPS Analog Gauge Speedometers that will have a linear scale.
A 60mph GPS Speedo will have 30 in the middle and 15 at 1/4 scale.

the problem is Logarithmic would be OK if it was 0-50 and 300 degree arc rather than the 180 degree.

Look very closely on the front of the gauge on the very edge of the face.
They often print the model number info in extremely small letters.
They will not be visible looking straight on, Look at an angle to see under the bezel.

certainly have the swing I would like, just to confuse the issue .... I don't really want to lose the trim gauge ... maybe I'll have to fit a separate one ...
Annoying a manufacturer goes to the point of fitting a 5" gauge, but in practical use it does not hit the mark.

It is all about styling.
I would guess that your gauge is a custom gauge commissioned by the manufacturer of your boat.

When skiing I just put the GPS Chart-plotter on the "BIG Numbers" Display mode.
It is easy to read the 2" Digital Speeds to 1/10mph.
