I have a 1994 mariner, 40hp, ser# 0G098093. Just bought it this year and everything worked fine when starting to use it. Then I noticed that the trim started to act funny and stopped working. Trying to start it one day and found out that the 20 amp fuse was blown. Checked farther and found some bare wire from melted insulation from a hot wire has rub off and grounded to the case. Replaced wire harness to the trim relays and both relays. Cleaned up and taped up all bare wires. Started back up and used it for a couple more weeks and then it was hard to get it to start without moving throttle up. I tried new plugs and ran a little better for almost a week. Now it will not start at all. I redid the carbs and put on new gas filter. I was going to redo the fuel pump, but rebuild kit not in, yet. I checked spark with timing light and all light up. Tried inline spark tester, but did not see any spark. I have the Seloc repair book and I am now checking out the electrical side of it. I would like some more hints from someone who might have ran into this before. I am not use to working on CD ignition.

Re: not starting now

Go Figure!! I thought I would hook up the battery charger to the new battery I bought the week before. I let it charge while I check on other connections. Made sure the right plugs were in and even made a call to a repair shop to check for when I could get it in, if I couldn't figure it out. Close everything up and put everything back together. Unhooked the charger and gave it a try. It started..!! Go figure.. I thought, because it was cranking, it was charged enough. Then I read in the repair book that it needs a fully charge battery. Now I will have to keep an eye on it to make sure the charging system is working good. To all those other post that I have read here, Thanks and I hope this helps someone else.
