I was told this motor was a 1976 when I bought it. Even the motor title says it is. However, from what I've learned on this board (thanks to everyone here) from the serial number charts and color schemes, I think this motor is more likely a 1975. What do you think? (see s/n in sig)

Serial number matches for a 1976. Looks like you got a 1976.....

What resource are you using to find that info? The chart I looked at from a previous post in this forum shows it as a 1975. The chart does list an 85XS for 1976 with my serial number range, but I didn't think this was an XS.

The decal "850" on the (75) is marked 85Hp so it must be a 76.

I have a large book of numbers :D (Which I will not part with!) The decals are of the 76/77 and are sometimes refered to as 'hockey stick'.

Chris...........

I see you've modified your signature already :p

Thanks a bunch. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I go for you experts.

Go to www.myfishingpictures.com and look at my collection of cowling markings. The 76 and 77 were nearly the same, but the 75 was very different, so it's at least a 76.
