Deadrise indeed makes a difference for time to plane and for maintaining plane. I will say it again, do not be afraid to hammer the throttle especially with heavier loads.
They have been rated the same since around 1991, at the propshaft. OBs prior to that were propshaft, and I/Os were crankshaft rated. Very important to understand when someone says a "260" for example. Usually that is a Crankshaft rated 350 I/O and was really only around 230 at the propshaft. Today all things are equal with the exception of weight and two strokes have more low end torque so they plane quicker. Jets and true Inboards are another thing and are still rated at the flywheel (crankshaft).I think there has to be a differance in the way they are rated.
