I think it is all hogwash myself. I am fully versed in the superior qualities of synthectic oil. It plain and simple blows dino oil away on all points. That being said, and some have heard it before, I
never change my oil!
My E150 4.6 liter has 225k heavily loaded miles on it. I put ***oil 0w-30 weight in it at 6k miles. I use an ***oil 2 micron bypass filter and an ***oil depth filter in the OEM position. Every 20k miles I replace both filters and top the van off with 2 qts of fresh ***oil.
To date, the engine uses one qt of oil in 4-4500 miles and runs like a swiss watch. The oil is jet black and stains the he** out of my driveway if I spill any but when I spin off those filters, I can't even hang on to them when the oil cascades down the side of them.
Point being, I just can't get **al about oil change intervals. There has been a whole lot of time and money that I have not spent at Quicky Lube.
I also run the same setup on my '94 454 Suburban. I bought it in 1996 with 17K on it. It now has 44K on it. I guess it is time that I should change the filters and top it off with some fresh ***oil.
