I added a bottle of octane booster to my 36 gal gas tank. The issue was my WOT revs was only reaching 4600. It was running fine before but for the WOT not getting up to 5-6000 range. It seemed to run smoother at idle and seemed to idle a little faster than it had been by about 100-200 rpm more. Also wasn't smoking as heavily at idle. Hole shot seemed better but with prop maybe too much pitch for my rig, It was not that much better. Usually put regular unleaded gas in, so is it better running premium gas in this motor, normally? Thought I read in manual that regular unleaded was ok for this motor.

Question: Would the octane booster hurt the motor?

The booster won't hurt, but what it's effectively done is the same as fuel injector cleaner, which is a bit less expensive. I use it all the time in my 2-stroke engines. The 150 needs less prop than what you'd expect, so if your engine is running on all 6, and the throttle linkage is correct, either change the engine height or the prop pitch to get up to the 6000 range. Or, toss excess junk overboard.

thanks, Grid! Since I just got this motor on the water last weekend, I'm not real familiar with its operating habits yet. I had been told here and by the mechanic I use that its probably too much prop. Just wish I knew where it shows pitch size on prop, or how to measure it. I think its a 21 pitch, my mechanic says every 2 pitch down is 500 rpms up so I'd need to go 4 pitch down to reach 5500 rpm range at WOT for my boats weight. OR my wife and I could loose weight, cause I don't really have all that much gear on board.

I'm a total newbie but on my Yamaha motor there is a small stamp on the prop that lists the prop pitch. Was hard to spot on mine so you may need to slowly turn it several times and look at it from various angles to see the pitch markings.

Sometimes you have to remove them and look at the inside to read the pitch.

Octane boosters are not recommended for 2 stroke motors. An octane booster is basically toluene, mineral spirits, and transmission fluid. It raises the flash point of the fuel mixture to control detonation, mostly in higher compression engines. With prolonged use it will gum up the pistons.
