Odd mercruiser serial number

I thought for a while this motor was a 305....But it has vortec heads 8 intake bolts, did vortec's even come on a 305?

The OE Mercruiser tag is missing from the back of the block, there is a tag on the front of the block just below the head stamped V05269ZA
I'm guessing this is a reman motor........

Sure - 96 and up 305 is a Vortec

Thanks............ funny how things happen, browing around on the forum this morning and I see a thread about identifying lifters

I take a look and what do you know Funtimes posted a link to a service bulletin for GM engine codes.....

The ZA means 1998-2001 Gen + 5.0
