BOULTON, FISH-RITE, N.W. JET. NORTH SHORE. RAIDER & HEWES CRAFT, ALUMAWELD, ALL GREAT (some expensive) welded aluminum boats.
They all provide off-shore brackets wherby the motor is mounted outside the stern, eliminating the motor sternwell. I don't see the advantage considering the extra weight, expense, etc. Question: Anybody truly know if there are any advantages for using a "off-shore" bracket? Thanks, esperanza.

improves weight balance, and handling. cuts down on water over the stern, when backing down on a fish.

The big advantage is putting the prop in cleaner water. It also allows you to raise the motor higher therefore reducing drag which increases efficiency. And it opens up room in the boat.

And an extended planing surface on some of them.....

The Only down-side I see is the Expense for guys who Don't build their own......

I'm not sure what you mean by cleaner water, all the extensions I've seen are merely an extension of the deadrise right off the bottom planeing part of the boat, and the bracket mounting height is made for the 20" or 25" motor shaft lengths so I think the drag would be the same. Yes, it does give you room for a nice fish-box off the stern or I could buy a 2' longer boat.
Thanks for your input ----esperanza.

Thanks for your answer, it made perfect sense to me. The only downside is I'm not about to weld onto aluminum & not knowing the exact thrust points of the structure would be to risky for me. Esperanza
