Re: Off the beaten path in Florida

Umm, off the beaten path in Florida is the swamp. :D

Just teasing, have a great time!

That is true, though!

I also recommend St. Augustine, HIGHLY! And Bok Tower is beautiful. The town of Mt. Dora is a cute little place. Silver Springs is cool. Dinosaur World is kind of cheesy, but if your kids are small, they'll like it. Plus you'll drive right by it. Dinosaur World Also, you'll drive by Fantasy of Flight in Polk City. Fantasy of Flight, World's Greatest Aircraft Collection The flying boat (yes it's a BOAT, not a plane) on the cover page is the one feautred in Raiders of the Lost Ark! If you go there, look to the south when you exit and wave towards my parents' house, it's 3 miles south of I-4.

Or get a boat and cruise the Winter Haven Chain of Lakes. Or the Harris Chain. Go to Mt. Dora by boat (that's the best way) or Go up the St. Johns River.

I really appreciate all of the input!! I have pinned these locations on my google map. I think we may just load up the wagon queen family truckster, pick a direction, and see what happens. And when that fails, I'll get them to a mall/amusement/site that is pinned on my map nearby stat. I'll be there until April so keep em comin' if you got em.
Thanks again!!

Nice pics aspeck! I wonder what the water temps are now? It still gets in the upper 40's at night and only mid 70's in Melbourne currently. Do the suits come with booties, hoodies, gloves, and Brandy?

Capone's restaurant in Kissimmee was fun. look for coupons. free "gambling" before the show, free buffet style meal and free drinks. clean comedy for all ages

snorkeling in one of the many springs is awsome

gator park with zip line in kissimmee

downtown orlando often has show at the lake free concerts etc

kayaking out by cocoa beach was awesome. I think the guide service for rentals was 30 a boat which included a guided tour. we just took our boats and went on our own. always see dolphins and usually manatees

The friends we are visiting (my roommate from USMMA) works for the Navy and lives in Cocoa Beach. He is taking us out for a cruise one night around the area. Capones is pinned on the map if I make it that way. Thanks!

Angus I will second the Mt Dora, suggestion. especially if your kids want to see a couple gators. Cute shops and what not in town for the wife, while you take the kids a few blocks away to the boat ramp. it was a boardwalk nearby. I have never been there without seeing gators.
Good selection of foods and wines there as well.

We were at Discovery Cove on a very cold day in January and it was actually comfortable and not crowded! No booties or hoods, and no brandy, but very do-able. It was a lot of fun. A very nice breakfast was included, then wetsuit fitting and scheduling of your swim with the dolphin. We then swam in the lagoon with the fishes till our time with the dolphin, then back to the lagoon and the lazy river. Lot's of snacks, drinks, and eats along the way (all included) and we did a lot of coffee and hot tea! After we were shriveled like a prune, we got out of the wetsuits and enjoyed the aviary. From 8 am till about 3 we spent there, when you leave, you also have a pass for Sea World, so after looking at all that was included, we felt it was a pretty good deal.

Just checked. Already fully booked from 3/21 thru 4/8. Plan early south kogs. Next time!
... missed it by that much!

Sorry man. I know we won't make it this year at all. I just looked at my June calendar for a work trip and realized I'll be gone more than home that month. Yeesh!

Made it. Forgot how much I despise air travel. Off to the west coast in am. Let the adventure begin.
