Re: Oh god what have I done

I braved the cold a few minutes ago and moved the pile around, found the missing motor!!
TN-27;116575. HP and year?

It's too cold and dark for me to bother arranging them for pics tonight but I did bring in the Evinrude 3026. Once some of the snow melts I'll get some pics

Alright, I couldn't seem to upload them to this site so here's the link to some pics of the 1958 3hp. Probably the most complete and in the best shape of them all.

Although I could hear some liquid sloshing around... I made the mistake of opening the gas cap. Nearly passed out. I think whatever it is has been in there for 30+ years. Probably not a good idea to try to start it like that, eh?

Oh, wanted to mention as well, it looks like the cowl cover for 3 of the motors are missing. All I found in the box is one side of the 4423, 2 green cowls, the missing recoil parts, the diassembled carbs and the beat to hell gas tank for the HD25. Any of you restorers out there, what do you do for dented tanks? do you try to find one in good shape to restore or do you cut it open to straighten the dents or do you just fill the dents in with bondo or some equivalent filler?

You can do any of the 3.

Once we see pics, we will be able to help more. Depends on the tank, and how bad it is.

Some you can pressurize, heat around the dent, and tap them out. takes practise though. Easiest way to do it is to bondo of course. Well, easiest is to find a good tank! Ill look through some parts boxes and see if I have anything that will help.

Vintage Boat Guy, whereabouts in southern ontario are you? I'm near Windsor.
tomhath, what's a guy supposed to do? Leave her out in the cold and the snow?

Last night I took the valve/filter out. what a mess in that filter! It had settled in there all nice-like with corrosion, I had to grab the nipple sticking out of the gas can (seems like it's welded on?) to turn the brass nut out.
