Hi guys. see if someone can help me with this. my 28 hp 1996 Evinrude is leaking oil by the spark plugs.i can also see a little oil by the carb. I havent had this motor for very long. It starts fine, idles ok, but at high speed it will kind of stall but will not turn-off.

The oil you are seeing is unburnt fuel, most likely. Plus, two stroke outboards are a little dirty.

There is NO oil to leak in the crankcase.

You need to address that high speed issue. It may be running lean, which will destroy it.

Does your primer bulb go flat when the engine fades? If so, you have a fuel tank vent issue.

Re: oil by spark plugs

If it kind of strains like its running through weeds it may be overheating.
Run the motor and VERY CAREFULLY feel the head.Should be too hot to hold your hand on but not so hot it burns you.Be careful.
You are mixing oil in the gas I hope?

Re: oil by spark plugs

I bought a 13ft flats boat and it came with this motor a few months ago. i don't know if it was not being used. The motor has always started without any trouble. I changed plugs put new gas and oil (50/1), tested the compression and sprayed the carb. with a cleaner a friend gave me that he uses on his motor. the motor does not strain the only thing is it will fade down and then back up as if it did not have gas going to it. I checked the vent on the tank today and it is allowing the tank to vent. I also cleaned the plugs. I didnt get a chance to test it today I will do it next weekend. I will let you guy know what happens.

Thank to all.
