I see different extractor pumps on the market all the way from about $20 to $200. Any recommendations out there?

And while I am at it, unscrewing the oil filter on my 4.3 is a pain in the neck. Any good oil filter wrenches out there that give good torque while standing on your head? Sure would like my Tacoma engine in there with the oil filter on top.

I winterise about 25 boats every fall. I have used many different pumps from electric to air powered vacume vessels. My favorite is a brass hand pump like the jabsco little pal. I have numerous attachments I have made for different engines and find it has outlasted all my fancy electric pumps. Sometimes the simple solution is the best. and it works better if the oil is hot. I also like the vise grip style oil filter wrench, allong with a extra laarge set of channel locke will work most of the time even with stubborn oil filters.

posts like this remind me why I added a flex oil line to the pan drain, and mounted a remote oil filter.

a strap wrench ($17 for a pair from Lowes) works wonders

I have a few of those strap wrenches too. They also work great on packing nuts on drive and rudder shafts , it depends on clearence issues. Most of the time I can remove filters by hand. If they are really stuck only then then do the big channel locks come out.

Where do you find a remote mounted oil filter?

There's probably ways of doing it yourself where it costs much less but there are "kits" available; see the links below for examples.
