Re: oil change in yahama 50hp 4 stroke outboard

Gabe,
Set the engine in a vertical, no-tilt position. Put on the earmuffs and warm up the engine. Warm, circulated oil drains better than cold oil. With a container properly positioned, and some rags handy, remove the oil drain plug. Then remove the oil fill port under the cowl. This will let air into the engine and allow a more complete drain. After the oil drains completely, replace the oil drain plug. You may need a new drain plug crush washer (consult the manual).
Pour new oil into the fill port, with the help of a funnel, if needed. Put the fill port cap back on, and check the level. Replace the engine cover. Be careful with the amount of oil. Check the level often, and add oil as needed. Good luck.
