Re: OIL COMPANY'S PROFIT!!!!

You can call me paranoid but I have a feeling that there is plenty of oil in the ground that we have not been told about.

Re: OIL COMPANY'S PROFIT!!!!

I always have to scratch my head when everyone talks about alternative fuel sources.....It's like someone is going to wave a magic wand someday and gas will be obsolete....I have a hard time believing that a truly viable method of powering motor vehicles is a long way off....Of course we have to keep trying....Just like the alchemists kept persisting in turning lead into gold....And if it does need regulation, I wouldn't leave it up to the bungling Bush boys....JK

What I meant to say is: I think that a viable alternative to gas for vehicles is in the very distant future, if at all.... Sorry for the triple post....Jk

Gee! Whatever happened to the good old days when it was only "Standard Oil" and gasoline was a mere few cents per gallon?

The incentive is to pump oil.
Not to make a gallon of that same petroleum power a safe, comfortable, practical family vehicle to get 175 mpg.........Or to make a urban transportation systems more efficient and useful.....Or alternative ways to help power our homes and businesses.

The "very distant future", attitude is hardfast statis-quo.

I agree that every effort should be made....I just don't think that "pie in the sky" will happen....When this world runs out of dead dinosaurs, what will happen to the billions who need heat to survive the winter? I hear Iceland has radiant heat...That's where I'm heading. Or Jamaica, yeah Jamaica!, I would rather paddle than freeze......I find it hard to believe that (with the money that is at stake) that this 'alternative fuel source" has not been located....Dead dinosaurs are are to replace...I always hear alternative....The sun will help us a bit, if we can learn to harness its' energy, but it is a finite source, too..."Even a blind man knows when the sun shines"....JK

Cheney is an oilman. The only thing Bush ever did to an oil company is run it into the ground.

Re: OIL COMPANY'S PROFIT!!!!

J.kopec, the alternative fuel surce already exists, its called Hydrogen. It is already proven that it can be used to generate the power needed for vehicles or whatever. The main obstacle is that it requires energy to create hydrogen. If we burn petrolium to generate hydrogen, we accomplish nothing. Nuclear power is the clear choice to provide the energy, but the resulting waste is less than optimal, as we have no truly sound way to eliminate that waste.

In the end, we are stuck with petrolium because we as a society are unwilling to spend the time and money to come up with and implement the solution (But we'll spend millions on new football or baseball stadiums). We know we need to, but we are going to sit on our butts and let the future generations deal with it. There are steps we can take to optimize petrolium use, but it would require change in attitude and behavior from us, something we are too lazy/stubborn to do. As long as we feel we need to be as wasteful and inefficient as we are, we will get exactly what we deserve.

We can't blame the President, vice president, big oil. We can only blame the person in the mirror. We are the ones driving our two kids to school in vehicles three times larger than what is needed, we are the ones who do a wretched job of recycling, we are the ones who made sure the paper grocery bag went away because God forbid we should lift a bag without handles. Every person in this forum can spend one day looking at how he/she lives, including myself, and see that we are irresponsible in our way of life. We are lazy and arrogant, and we shouldn't be at all surprised at the current situation.

I agree and I sell this crap!!!! Nat gas comes pretty close, but some say that is not really a an alternative as it is mostly a fossil fuel.

Hydrogen the fuel of the future, and it always will be . . . ;)

Oil companies have very cleverly merged, into a few giant companies until the weaker ones have been squeezed out. Now they have a virtual monopoly with no real competition. Free market, my a$$.

Re: OIL COMPANY'S PROFIT!!!!

DJ
do you really belive that the new global oil companies are in a global free market?
is that what your explaing to me? do you actually belive Chevron,texaco,shell,exxon/mobile,total and a few others and citgo are all free market entities ?
I wonder if walmart could enter the oil biddness.
all are subsidized by various govts. all control vast resouces that cannot be tapped by anyone else, all have vast monopolies on hard structures like pipelines and distribution points. not very free to me.thats why with billions and billions of profits to be made not many new oil companies are forming, just a few pumping companies but the market they sell to and controls the product is rather closed

I dunno JB. EM reported Q3 profits up 75%....but then again, its all statistics, lies, facts and figures. But when I see those 100-150 foot mega-yachts for sale in the back of SEA mag, well, thats the end result.

EPS $4.00 vs. $2.59

$.88 plus 80% is $1.58 and....

This is before any weather related BS....
XOM reported 2nd quarter 2005 earnings of $1.23 per share. This result was in-line with the consensus of the 15 analysts following the company and beat last year's 2nd quarter results by 39.8%

Re: OIL COMPANY'S PROFIT!!!!

There is a book on the market called "The Seven Sisters:The Great Oil Companies and The World They Shaped".
This makes for very interesting reading about the free market and how to manipulate it.
