Is the hose that supplies oil from the reservoir tank to the Yamaha 130 (1988) engine anything but regular fuel line? Is it okay to buy from an auto store or does it need to be marine grade. A large portion of it is exposed to sun & weather. Mine is stiff and old, I need to replace.

about any rubber line that is oil/fuel proof and the correct size will work. most yamaha dealears have plenty of it laying about.

When I pulled the external oil tank out to flush and clean to my surprise I found a small oil filter (like a fuel filter) mounted on the bottom side of the tank. I bet this thing has not been changed since new in 1988! How many people know there is an oil filter mounted on the underside of the external Yamaha oil reservoir ? Tank was a bit sluggish on the bottom for sure, rinses with gas and dried.

most people dont. the rest dont care. it is however in the annual service procedures
its labeled REMOTE OIL TANK FILTER, replace.its item 7 on the list of periodic maint.under every 200 hours OR one year whichever occurs first. seems like another that never ever does the RTFM procedure of maint.
however if it clogs oil transfer ceases. if the alrms system and item #8 has not been done either the first indication of a clogged filter may be when either it locks up or a rod appears on the outside of the crankcase cover. if item #7 was neglected, odds are item 8 was as well.
