Looking today at my 1986 force 85hp that I am working on and noticed some oil leaking around the bottom of the lower unit. Is this normal ? I looked to see if there was a seal / gasket that goes in between the foot and the lower unit but in the diagram for my motor I didn't even see one ? Motor is 858V6A.

Would it be from a gasket ? I didn't even see one on the parts diagram.

Most likely a shift seal. Your going to have to pull off the lower to figure out what needs replacing

How does the oil smell? Any gasoline aroma?

I looks more like unburned pre-mix.

Thats what I think it is actually. My 3 carburetors were leaking gas (just replaced the gaskets on them tonight) and I think the leaking gas was going inside the engine compartment and the gas is evaporating and the oil is leaking out... I will get it all cleaned up really good after fixing the carb issue and see if it happens again.

Kind off odd because most of the oil is coming from above the gear case portion of your lower unit, however, it looks like I see some oil leaking out from under the lower unit fill or vent plug. There is a gasket under the plug.
