OIL LEAK

I TOOK MY BOAT OUT LAST NIGHT AND REALIZED THEIR WAS SMOKE COMING OUT FROM THE BACK OF THE ENGINE. TODAY I CHECKED THE ENGINE AND FOUND OIL RESIDUE ON THE LOWER UNIT. THE BOAT STARTS AND RUNS FINE BUT THE QUESTION IS WHY IS THE MOTOR SMOKING AND THE OIL LEAKING. I HAVE A 65HP MERCURY OUTBOARD MOTOR. PLEASE HELP. THANKS <br /><br /> PENA

What sort of engine is on that boat? We'd love to help you here, but you don't really offer any information to help us.<br /><br />This could be anything from a 2hp Johnson to a 454 c.i. outdrive. It does make a difference.

Oil residue on the lower unit is not necessarily a bad thing.... If it is black and thick it is most likely just unburned or slightly burned 2-stroke oil that is exhausted out of the lower unit or drained down from the exhaust tube after running...<br /><br />Normal for a two-stroker.. And they will smoke...<br /><br />Is this something new?
