oil leaking around prop

I changed the oil in my leg the other day and last night i noticed some oil leaking around the prop.It isn't clean oil though,it is black and smells like it has gas in it or burnt oil.Where is coming from if it isn't from the oil i just changed??

Read this sticky. It's posted in the outboard FAQ section. You don't provide much for us to go on, but I'm guessing number one is what you're experiencing. Welcome to iboats.

If you ran the motor recently, it was probably just unburned oil coming from the exhaust. Mine does it all the time. Almost ALL 2 stokes do. (you are talking about a 2 stroke...right?)

If it smells like gas or regular oil, it is Two-Cycle oil. If it really stinks, it is gear oil.

Just wanted to say thank you all. I about had a heart attack seeing oil leaking around the prop. I recently changed the gear case oil and the oil leaking was burnt and ugly so I'm pretty sure its not gear oil.... I've had so many issues with my motor and I about lost it when I saw that. So thanks again.
