Oil on spark plugs

I am having problems getting speed up when WOT.
I took out the plugs(which are fairly new)and cleaned them.Looks like I had a little oil on the side of the plug,not in the electrode.

Does any one think I could mabe add a little fuel to it to thin out the oil a little?
I used 50 to 1(correct amount) when fueling up,but mabe I got an ounce too much possibly.
Its a force 85 3 cylinder.

Im gonna go out and get new plugs again tomorrow and try it.
Any advise would be appreciated.

An ounce extra won't matter.Check the fuel pump diaphram.Then a compression/spark test.J

I did check the diaphram and filter that attaches to the motor wirh 4 bolts or so.Diaphrap looked good with no holes.

That is the fuel pump right?
kinda new here to these big motors

I can get a spark tester that clamps to the wires,so it don't pierce the plug wires.That should work right?

Not even sure how to do a compression test.

You need a comp tester about $15-150.A cheap one will work.J

Compression tester $10-19 at Harbor Freight. Gave me a good indication of engine condition. Good starting point.

The plug wire tester should be ok though right?
It's only 10 bucks,but should do the job for that part of testing.

A good spark tester is the kind that has an end on it that looks like the spark plug end that goes into the plug wire boot. There's even one that looks like a spark plug. Search ebay and you will see what they look like. Can probably get one at your local auto parts store. Just make sure you clip the ground wire to your motor on it when you test. Compression test is simple, Just get your self a cheap compression tester that will screw into the plug hole. Turn the motor over a few times with the starter to build the compression. Read the gauge, write it down. Now release the pressure in the gauge and test the next one, and so on, I think the rule of thumb is that you at least want them to be within 10 lb's pressure of each other. Its great if all cylinders are pretty close. Don't just let your plug wire dangle when you do it, You could have that loose plug wire hooked up to your spark tester when you do the compression test. Its not good to just let a plug wire dangle and throw out voltage not connected to a plug or spark tester. Good Luck.

Hey that sounds good.
I ordered te plug tester and will e in tomorrow morning.

I will get a comp gauge next week to test that part of it.

Is there a correct pressure they should be around when I check them?

Well spark was good on all 3 cylinders.
I put new plugs in also.

Seems to me the problem is the plugs look a little wet when I take them out.
Im no genious(lol) but if the plugs are wet,it can't get correct spark under pressure.

I bring it down to slow for a tad,and then kick it down,and try again.Tries to,but no go.
Guess by slowing down I might be possibly cleaning the gas off the plugs,as it burns,and gets them a little drier.

Then I try again.

What would be a common problem with wet plugs?
Reeds?

Tried new gas,diaphram,spark,different fuel tank,the bulb squeese test,decarb 3 times in a row(was still smoking enough to keep the skeeters away )even left the plugs out for awhile to get air into the engine so it could breath..ha

Air,fuel,spark.
So it seems to be leaving me with fuel.
The guy I bought it from said it ran hard and good last year.

He did hit a rock,so I put on a new prop as well.
So a tad of oil and fuel on the plugs.

Mabe the decarb is still working at cleaning out junk.Seems like I can get a little more throttle out of it than before.
And runs good until I kick it down all the way,then boggs.And i can actually pull the throttle back after bogging,and run at a little higher rpm.

Compression with a good tester will be around 140# I spent about over a $100 on mine (it does lots)The thing to look for is all three about the same 5-10# is acceptable.
Wet plugs will happen in a 2stroke.Your burning oil and gas.J

Will have to wait on that though.Tight money..lol

Im fairly new on boat motors.
This is a 85 force-1985.
Im guessing its a 1985 as the boat is a 85 bayliner.

Idle speed adjustment is located on the tower shaft. Here is a picture of a 125 HP motor, but the adjustment on yours is in the same spot. The yellow line points to the screw. It should have a lock nut to lock the setting in place.

One other thing...all that black powdery residue on your carbs is the foam insulation on the inside of your cover coming off. Probably not a good thing for it to be sucked into the carburetors.

The mixture screws are on the opposite side of the motor right?Brass pins with a straight screwdriver end?
Oops,mabe not.Those are something different.

I also took off the carb cover(with the 3 covers for my carbs)cleaned it out,but i noticed the air hose that goes to them is clogged.I can't blow through it.
But mabe that only sucks air when it is running hu?

Yes,I need to cover up things,and blow that out.

A note on the hose that goes from the motor,to the carb cover.
I took that hose off,and couldn't blow through it.

Tried real hard,and blew what looks like motor cover insulation
(the black stuff)

So that was clogged,and mabe it was starving for air possibly?
But put it back on,and still coildn't blow through it,so guessint that only works when its running.
Any thoughts on that?

Sorry I wasn't clearer on the yellow line. No #1 on your last picture is not the idle adjustment screw. The left end of the yellow line is right on the idle adjustment screw.

Ok,
It was hidden away.
Got a lock nut on it,and straight edge for screwdriver.
Should be by my finger in the pic.

It justs rests against the motor frame,and you screw it out to set.
