I was reading the owners manual and it says the light should be on under normal operation. If the light goes out then you may have low oil or some other oil realted problem. This seems backwards??? my 2005 9.9hp four stroke seems to run fine but the oil indicator light is not lit. Is this normal or do others have a red light that comes on during normal operation?

If I remember correctly, the book said the light will come on if there is a problem. That is just the opposite of my old Honda.

It depends on the manufacturer.

I had a 25HP Honda and the green light should always be on to indicate normal oil pressure. The manual said to have the enging checked if the green light was ever not visible.

I just bought a 9.9 Suzuki and a red light comes on for a few seconds at startup (to let you know that it is working) and then if all is normal it turns off. If it comes back on then you have no pressure, get the engine serviced.
