oil pressure on a new 2008 4.3l MPI

Hey guys,

Just bought a new boat (woohoo). Finally got rid of the 3.0L 4cyl Merc.

Question: Anyone know what the oil pressure should be on a 2008 4.3L MPI Merc? I am currently getting upwards of close to 80. The middle of the guage on the boat is 40.

My inlaws "chewed" up the prop slightly and was wondering if it was making my oil pressure spike.

It is sitting in a 2008 maxum 2000sr3.

Prop has no effect on oil pressure. 80PSI sounds a bit high, but it is better than low. How so you know the gauge is accurate?

You could install a mechanical gauge and compare.

ya i'm not sure it is accurate. I was just out on the boat this weekend and was checking the guages and saw that this one was not quite pegged, but over to the right. The gauge goes from 0-40-80 and it was just shy of 80.

The motor has 8.6 hours on it and hope that it wasn't anything I did that would cause this problem

On a new engine thats not unheard of...
When it warms up it should drop a little..

It doesn't drop.

What else would cause high oil pressure in a new motor? Some sort of blockage?

too thick oil used at oil change..."just shy of 80" on a low resolution guage could mean anything, verify with known good mechanical guage

My new engine has high oil pressure also. it is a carbed 4.3 mercruiser. It is around 80 psi until warmed up, and then it goes to 40 psi at idle and around 70 psi at cruise. I have been told it is fine and normal by the dealer.
