I have a 2002 4.3l mercruiser (carbrator). When I started it up for the season I noticed a huge amount of oil leaking from the top of the motor beside the distributor cap. I discovered that my oil pressure sensor had totally rusted off. I looked up the part # online which I think is 8m6000623 , However that part is brass an mine was steel. So I have a couple of questions.
1. do I have the correct part
2. how do I remove the old sensor (the top is completely gone can get a wrench on it).

Howdy

That is the correct part for the oil gauge sender. Being brass it shouldn't rust off like the last one, but it may not be brass, might be zinc plating. If it's zinc as in the pic below, it will still rust, may want to paint.

The sender has nut on the bottom, need a short open end wrench to get a hold of it

My bad I listed wrong part # (water pressure sensor instead of a oil pressure sensor). It is the oil pressure sensor that I'm looking for.

I'm not sure if it is a oil pressure sensor or it a oil pressure warning sender. It looks more like the oil pressure warning sender. the unit does not look very big. I tried to attach a picture but it would not upload from my phone.

You should be able to upload a pic now. The carb motors didn't have a water pressure switch/sensor. They did have an oil pressure switch and a sender as listed above
