Hello my first post here hope you cna help me on what to do.

1996 Mariner 135. 2 stroke, with 130 hours.
The other day i was driving the boat as normal and it performed flawlessly. Whn i turned on the engine after shutting it down I it began beeping continuously whilst operating. I was a long way up river so i drove back to the pick up point the engine shut off once by itself. I waited ten minutes then drove at 1500 rpm back the temperature needle did not go above halfway.

Is it likely that there is any damage to the engine what is the best course of action should i just replace the oil pump and assume the engine is ok

thanks

may not be the oil pump. could be the alarm module, my 40 hourse merc don the same thing so now I just mix the oil and gas at a 50;1 mix.

Beep Beep Beep or steady tone? Steady is overheat and beep beep beep is oil. Does it beep when the key is just turned on and the engine is not running?

You are prolly OK - but have the oil system and sending unit tested ASAP.

-W

I am not familiar with your particular engine, but if you have onboard oil tank, check the cap for cracks around the top where the threads end. Mercury caps have a tendancy to pop the top off the oil caps. Could be the float inside is just stuck.
