Just bought a rebuilt 1984 5.7 longblock for my boat to replace my blown 1984 mercruiser 228

I am having trouble tracking down misc parts to complete the engine.

1) Oil Pickup/screen - Merc lists part no. 710-35354 but it is no longer available. Anyone know proper replacement? I found a "Melling 55-S2"

2) Oil pan gasket - I'd prefer to use the Fel-Pro 1 pc pan gasket. They list a marine (17983) and non marine (34510T). Are either one fine?

Thanks

Ayuh,.... If the Melling's puts the pick up where it's gotta be in the pan, that's the 1 ya need,...

I'd probably go with the marine version (17983), myself...

Re: Oil screen Pickup

Just a +1 to what Bondo said - the pickup has to match the pan. Different style pans have a different depth and the pickup has to be the right one to rest just off the pan bottom. From the experience I've had with cars and boats, the automotive pans are seldom the same as the marine ones, so don't automatically expect a car pickup to be right for your pan.
