the previous owners used two boards sandwiching the transom. the transom is pretty strong ,i have never seen it flex. i replaced the old wood with a nice piece of birch with 4 layers of helmsman and a aluminum diamond plate cover. i used that runny 5200 to seal the holes. i think my repair will last until i can totally rebuild it correctly. its a 66 larson w merc 950 SS.
the befores and a few afters

Do it right. My boat i Picked up had the same "Fix" other than the plate was bent to to fit the curve and go up into the splash well. Your going to hurt the hull badly by doing that. If that wood is rotted even a little it wont take long for it to spread and destroy your tansom and or sink your boat. The transom from the looks of it is in bad shape. I dont believe there should be a curve in your transom. it should be flat.

Yep, the transom is totally gone and needs to be replaced in it's entirety. In it's current condition it is probably not safe to put on the water.
