Yes Ply, I agree with you, however, wouldn't it be nice if there were less profanity on the TV and radio? Wouldn't it be nice if our politicians were not corrupt? Wouldn't it be nice if the life of an unborn child was respected?

Sure this stuff is constitutionally protected, but liberal Supreme Court constitutional interpretation has made this country exactly what the Islamic religion thinks we are. Decadent, self indulgent, greedy, self absorbed......on and on. Have you ever read the Laura Wilder "Little House on the Prairie" seres of books? Life was a lot harder back then, but common decency abounded, self reliance was the order of the day, and personal freedoms were real and abundant, showing that what we have today is in stark contrast, more like socialism.

This prayer was just one man pointing out things that many agree are wrong with the America of today.

Part of being free is the ability to make choices for oneself. I don't really want someone deciding for me what should be on TV and the like--it has an "off" switch and I use it, and am fully capable of using it.
As far as some nostalgic look at the "good old days" when things were simple, it is simply unreal.
All you have to do is read Twain's "Huckleberry Finn" or Dos Passos and his American Trilogy, or ****ens, or Upton Sinclair, or a host of other writers, to find out that many times nostagia is simply not what it was cracked up to be.

Sometimes freedom is indeed messy, and uncomfortable--it wouldn't be freedom if it were tightly controlled...

And of course it would be good if all people acted appropriately, and we have a system of laws and the rule of law to attempt to achieve that goal--but human nature being what it is, I doubt if we are going to eliminate the need for the criminal justice system any time soon.

And none of it has anything to do with whether I believe in God or not, or which God, or how many gods, or what form they may take, or whether they are called "Allah" or "Mohammed" or "Jesus" or "jake" The Rev is perfectly free to express his opinion in the form of his prayer--I have absolutely no problem with that. When there is a push to make it public policy with the force of law behind it, that is an altogether different issue.

The argument that somehow the courts favor other religions at the expense of Christianity is pure folly---The courts are designed to protect the citizenry from the tyranny of the majority, and it is distressing to me to see how much they are under attack for simply doing what they are supposed to do.

And the radical Islamics don't like us because of this freedom, and not because of the percieved "decadence" and also because we are strong. So it goes.

And a free and open society is by necessity a potentially more dangerous society--so be it--if you really want to read a scary novel about the alternative, read Margaret Atwood's relatively contemporary novel "A Handmaid's Tale"

Enough of the reading list--

Have a great day!!

SBN, I hope your friend in the wood business owns the business, and isn't simply working for someone, who may be unaware of his largesse!

When I was a kid, I had a friend in the grocery business, and he sold me beer at what was a very attractive price. I'm not sure all involved appreciated the practice, but then in those days I was not too inquisitive regarding all the details.

I normally stay away from the political threads but I thought I would add my 2 cents for what its worth.

Believe it or not I agree with the plywood man on this also. Though I do agree with a lot of what the Rev said. What do you do about it?

I thank god every day for being born and raised an American. We have the freedom to live the way we want to in this country. Do you strip the rights of people that choose to live a different life style than you? Do you censor people that have a different view of what is freedom of speach? If you do that then you lose! I for one dont want to lose the one thing that sets this country apart from the rest, and that is the freedom to do as I choose.

If I dont like what someone else is doing, as long as it dont hurt anyone but them why should I even care what they do. I have the right to ignore them, I have the right to change the channel on the TV, I have the right to teach my kids what "I" think is right or wrong. Too many folks worrying about what everyone else is up to.

The one thing you can do is go out and vote, we all have the right to do that.

Fact: This is a troll...

Quote:

We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.

We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.

We have killed our unborn and called it choice.

We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.

We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem.

We have abused power and called it politics.

We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition.

We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.

We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

Lets take out the frightening fact that a minister said this and stick to the substance. Does anyone have a problem with this aspect, (the majority of the prayer) I find it to be factual and non-religious. I truely fear in my heart of hearts that sometime, soon I hope, we will look upon abortion the same way we look at slavery today. Just because the supreme court currently accepts the most selfish of arguements, doesn't mean it will last forever.

I don't hear people argueing that the government is usurping personal property rights by the same group who claim abortion is a right.

Pointing to a governing body to support your arguement doesn't present absolute truth. Can you say 9th circuit????

Ok time to toss'em back. :D ;) :D ;) :D

Plywoody I agree with your position.

And I really wasn't looking for an answer however can you not agree (and take the religion aspect out of it).

We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment..
What does any of this have to say about religion. It is more a statement of our culture. And if this is truely a statement of our culture as SW has said
Sure this stuff is constitutionally protected, but liberal Supreme Court constitutional interpretation has made this country exactly what the Islamic religion thinks we are. Decadent, self indulgent, greedy, self absorbed......on and on.
So this "troll has nothing to do about religion it as everything to do about the decline of western civilization as we know it. Maybe we can't go back to the Ozzy and Harriet days but don't you feel that the morals of our society have declined to the point that it makes it difficult to teach our children the true meanung of right and wrong.

And I'm with you 110% the less government in our lives the better. That includeds every program that takes money from me in the name of social justice.

Pointer – every problem in America reduces down to a single, common denominator.

Recall the saying: “evil thrives where good men do nothing.”

You had/have a choice: act  or NIMBY-ism :) or … MTV & Playstation2. :D

good one Rabbit! how about this one:
"the road to disaster is paved with good intentions"

once you remove the religious "ulterior motive"
and the fact it was to the "legislature", I agree
with almost every point said. but that's what makes
it a "troll" to begin with...
