I am not sure if you are a costco member this Deal they have in AZ. More than likely picking one up this weekend and give the kids our sony. I really like Samsungs' picture on all there 120mhz LCD/LED's . I notice the difference on 60 vs. 120 when I watch sports. You get a lag in the image. 6 million dollar man/Steve Austin .... Drop the cable and go with Sattilite picture is crisper this is where you can see the difference. Here is my account number to directv 75959112 use it to get $10 off a month.
Let us know what you choose.

As I said earlier, my plasma is going out and we are now looking at new TV's, what I want to know, is there really that much difference between a 60 mhz and a 120 mhz refresh rate, and in normal TV viewing will it be noticeable?

Thanks, we are looking at LED 1080 TV's have found a couple that are actually pretty well reviewed for the price point we are looking at.

Of course I watch NASCAR, and the action can move pretty fast in some of those races

Actually, the opposite is recommended. We have a plasma in a bright room at one of our vacation homes and the TV is almost unwatchable during the day. LCD in a couple other bright rooms at other homes and they are fine.

So do Plasma's still have a sheet of highly reflective glass? If so then how can a bright room and highly reflective glass work well together? For all I know they have changed over the years since I've just never owned one.

I would love to have a 60", but no room for it. I just got back and have the new TV set up, and calibrated, have run some of my HD recordings from Nascar races and no problem with lagging at all, deep rich blacks, nice contrast, great color, and playing with the different presets has been fun, it has several different modes built in, such as golf, football, basketball, movie, etc. For the price I paid, if it lasts as long as 42 Plasma did, then I will be happy. And heck, I have 90 days to return it, if it ends up that we don't like it. Best of all, my wife is happy, the first blu ray she put in was Cars 2 and she said it looked great. So if the wife is happy, I am happy.

Most have higly reflective glass and aren't as a bright as an LCD.

I have never had a problem with my plasma and being able to watch it, I know we have gone over this before, several times. But that is here nor there anymore, I have an LED now and it looks pretty good.

One other thing I will add, I have run quite a few recordings of NASCAR races today, since setting this up, and I am not seeing any lag at all with 60hz, these are direct digital HD recordings that I did during the last season, and I am not seeing any problems.

Lag(response time) has never been an issue with the LCD except for possibly many years ago when they first came out. Its the refresh rate that people seem to be concerned about.

That's all that matters........... I'm watching the rerun of practice. I see Shrubby's brother and others got in a tangle....

Re: Ok, TV question again!

At the end of the day, its pretty difficult to buy a TV that isn't going to look better than what you have. It is amazing how many customers I get every day that refuse to listen to me when I tell them buying a 240hz TV because of the 240hz is for lack of a better term a waste of money. Sure there are differences in the panels (like having smaller sections of localized dimming, and better contrast), but to just pull out your wallet for refresh rate is silly. The 240 hz is for the 3D anyways.....

I usually turn 120hz off on my LED. The soap opera effect drives me silly sometimes. The picture is too smooth for what we have trained our eyes to watch for years.

Stay with the plasma if your viewing rooms bright.

The opposite is true as Bruce stated. The glass will glare like crazy. Even LEDs have a decent amount of glare, and some have a matted finish that causes a rainbow effect when light hits the screen. LCD is the BEST for a bright room. The picture doesn't get washed out in direct light, and the glare is significantly less than the other technologies. Its a shame really....most of my customers want an LED because they think it is the best technology on the market and that LCd is outdated. Nobody wants to listen.......

This.

The higher refresh rate is great if you like your "Best Cinematography" Oscar winning movies transformed to look like they were shot on the cheapest, crappiest camcorder available.

The only time it's beneficial to go above 60Hz is for 3d, where the higher refresh rate is used to get the alternating frames all on the screen. For normal viewing, 120 Hz and above is nothing but marketing hype.

^^^^^^^^^^^^ ++++++

Amazing that people get told that this artificial high refresh rate is the best thing since sliced bread and they totally buy into it.

Now I got a weird question for anyone in the know, this new TV I bought, seems to get off track on the sound every once in a while, after it has been on for a few hours, the sound track and image get out of sync, if you change channel and go back to what you are watching everything is synced back up again. Any Ideas?

Sounds like your Dish Network. Next time, turn the TV off and back on while keeping the Dish receiver on and see if you have the same issue.
