hey everybody...well hunting season is over here in ohio the walleye will be runnin up the river soon so now its time to get back to work on the tin tug. during the winter between hunting and grillin backstraps i messed with the boat abit. i will post pics later this afternoon. i'm at the piont to start replacing the deck. i want to get it all cut to fit then seal it all before i put it in and button it up. i have a couple of questions though. first...should i label a post of my rebuild and ask questions there....? or read through other post and ask them to were they are simular? the second question i have is...the boat is a 88' blue fin sportsman with a 50 hp force on it. i cant find a tag on this boat anywhere to tell me max wieght or hp. i question this cause im thinking about using 3/4 exterior ply glassed and coated with durabac for the new deck and am curious about the wieght gain. i'm not sure what the factory deck was made of as this thing was a mess when i drug her home.if anyone can lead me to were i might find this info or any other info i might need would be a big help. im heading out to the shop now to get busy,n try to put up some pics.....be back in a bit..over n out.

I dont think it really matters where you ask the questions-the fact that you mentioned reading through other posts will make a lot of people happy-most people dont want to read and just start asking questions that have been answered several times before. Furthermore, if you do read through other posts you will find that many of your questions will be answered...
As for the deck-unless you already have the 3/4 ply i would use 5/8. I think 3/4 is a bit overkill for the deck but it is your build and you may see circumstances that I dont. I just know that 5/8 seems fairly popular....

Good luck!!

thanks for the reply..i haven't got the wood yet but am heading out today to get it. I am out in the shop right now looking things over and I think your probley right on the over kill. There isn't that much distance between anything that supports the deck to were heavier ply would be an issue. Think I'll go with the 5/8 insted..

Hey tintug. Starting your own thread is a good idea. It will keep it simple for us folk who enjoy watching a build in progress. Other people with chime in. I think 5/8 is plenty. Don't get pressure treated or chipboard. A good marine grade or exterior grade will suffice. Get it wrapped in fiberglass and it will last for years to come. Would love to see some pics, and don't be shy about asking questions. Good luck.
