Old Boat Livewell need help.

Bought a used proline. Has a non functional shurflow washdown/baitwell pump, also has a rule recirc pump in the baitwell, working. I suspect the rule pump as later addition after the other pump died.

I am new to using these. Do I need a baitwell pump, or should I stick with the recirc/aerator pump and just change the water from time to time?

How useful is it to have a baitwell/livewell pump, and should I spend the 150 bucks to put in a new one?

Thanks.

This is a boat question, not a fishing question.

I would vote for replacing the raw water pump. It is better for the bait to constantly change the water, and a heck of a lot easier to fill the thing.

Live well/bait well pumps are $30 - $35 and as was mentioned, it's best to have fresh water and easier to pump it than bail it. While you are at it, spend another $30 of the money you save for a live well pump timer. It allows the pump to run for 30 seconds or so and then remain off for 3 minutes. Some are even adjustable for the OFF time.
