In addition to what has already been addressed, have you considered your tie downs? Specificaly, you should have something at the bow and something at the stern. Fabric straps can degrade, and are relatively inexpensive; if in doubt replace. Good luck with the trip.

Hopefully the "New-Tires" are trailer-rated not L/T tires.

Hmmmm, tow vehicle 5000#, towing over 5000# without brakes, not wise.

Well that only puts you in violation in 90% of the states and all of the provinces.

Where are you located?

Crossing any state lines?

What? Your math (and reading) stinks. :)

"The boat + trailer weighs about 4500-4600 lbs"

"my 6 cylinder trailblazer is rated to tow 5500 lbs"

I see an apology is in order......

Or, do you not know that trailer brakes are required in most states, if the loaded trailer is over 3000#

Spend the 5-10 bucks and have it weighed to see what you actually have to haul. Also check your state rules on trailer brakes. In Florida and most states any trailer over 3000 lbs has to have surge brakes installed. also check your state law at the sticky at the top of the trailer forum. http://www.towingworld.com/articles/TowingLaws.htm

Had no idea.. oops, yeah, I'll have the crow! Largest boat I've towed was an 18 ft regal and no brakes needed for that. I do have a car hauler with brakes though so should have known better.

From the 2002 Chevy Trailblazer owners manual, page 4-54:

Trailer Brakes
If your trailer weighs more than 1,500 lbs. (680 kg) loaded, then it needs its own brakes -- and they must be adequate. Be sure to read and follow the instructions for the trailer brakes so you?ll be able to install,
adjust and maintain them properly.
